Stephanie Cadman Trio
In 2006 Stephanie had the incredible opportunity to create a hot, new, original show at the Charlottetown Festival in PEI. After a sold-out 5 week run at the Confederation Center, Stephanie’s Celtic Blaze toured throughout the US and Canada to rave reviews. Celtic Blaze is now touring as a trio with Jake Charron on piano/guitar and Charles James on double bass. They recently finished recording their second album at the Woodshed Studio in Toronto ON. Produced by one of Stephanie’s idols Daniel Lapp, the CD it is set to be released March 2012, kicking off their tour in NYC.
Celtic Blaze features music and dance viewed through the bright prism of Stephanie Cadman’s Canadian heritage, uniquely blending her vast performance experience featuring Ottawa Valley-style Celtic Stepdancing and Celtic fiddling. In addition to strong vocals, Stephanie Cadman is a world-champion tap dancer and one the featured stars of Bowfire.
This album showcases Stephanie’s unique talents as a composer, fiddler, Ottawa Valley stepdancer and tap dancer. The CD features original tunes with some of Stephanie’s old favorites thrown in the mix. The trio has started to perform live with Stephanie’s unique newest edition ‘the percussive chamber box’. It’s a wooden dance platform that is miced underneath and attached to a looping pedal making Stephanie the drummer/percussionist of the band. It is a hit in live shows and is so unique to the celtic/folk world making her live shows pretty bad ass!
“Daniel Lapp has been an innovator, mentor and staple of the west coast music scene for over 20 years. Since learning his first tunes from his farming/fiddling grandpa, his work on the fiddle has garnered him praise from critics around the world and he has appeared on various prestigious world stages including the 2010 Opening Ceremonies where his ‘punk mohawk’ look captured the imagination of the country. He is the founder and president of the Victoria Fiddle Society and the BC Fiddle Orchestra and has collected over 1000 original fiddle tunes by over 100 BC composers. This collection and his vast knowledge of the BC fiddle culture will soon be explored in an in depth CBC radio series. His work on the trumpet has ranged from Bix to electrix as he has explored the history of the instrument and jazz music in general from it’s earliest forms to contemporary settings with his band Lappelectro. He has performed worldwide and shared the stage with symphony orchestras, Rickie Lee Jones, Beth Orton, Spirit of the West, Lou Reed, Elvis Costello, John Hammond, Bowfire and Van Dyke Parks to name a few. His most recent project, Polkastra, co-lead with Lara St. John and an array of classical musicians from New York City has just recorded a follow-up album to their acclaimed sophomore album, Apolkalypse Now”
JAKE CHARRON is continuing to build a reputation as one of Canada’s finest accompanists for fiddle music. Jake has performed with fiddle champions Shane Cook, Mark Sullivan, Louis Schryer, Pierre Schryer, and many others including his younger brother Kyle. Jake has recently enjoyed working with Stephanie Cadman’s Celtic Blaze, and also with fiddler/stepdancer Dan Stacey. He has been the house pianist at the Canadian Open Fiddle Championships in Shelburne for the past 5 years. Jake has also worked with Cape Breton tenor Tom Leadbeater, renowned tune writer Brian Pickell, and more recently toured with ECMA winner Troy MacGillivray. Jake graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an Honours degree in Kinesiology last fall.
